Levee Belle
A 25' 6" Iron Sternwheeler
By William & John Atkin
Big Little Paddlewheeler
"Steamboat comin' 'roundthe bend!" will be the cry when owner Wayne Smith, Winona, Minn., launches this character river cruiser on the Mississippi. With a 25 hp Universal driving her big wheel through sprockets and chain, she'll reel off 8 mph. Her copper fuel and water tanks, holding 40 gallons each, give her a range of about 275 miles.
The welded wrought iron hull is designed for two people but two more could be carried if upper berths were installed. Deckhouse and pilot house are wood. She steers from either pilot house or cabin.
Levee Belle measures 25 feet, 6 inches in overall length; 20 feet, nine inches on the waterline. Her beam is 11 feet, 8 inches over the guards (9 feet, 8 inches for her hull only) and she draws 10 inches.
Plans for Levee Belle are $150
